GiddyUp, a parimutuel-powered gaming platform, is beginning its rollout in California, offering a new type of real-money experience tied to live horse racing results.
Currently operating in beta, GiddyUp gives California users access to casino-style gameplay even though online casinos are not yet legal in the state. That positioning makes GiddyUp a notable example of how operators are working within existing regulations to deliver alternative gaming options.
What is GiddyUp?
GiddyUp differs from traditional iGaming titles by removing random number generators from the equation. Instead, all outcomes are based on real horse races, with wagers grouped together in a shared parimutuel pool.
From a user perspective, the experience resembles familiar iGaming products like online slots. However, each play is ultimately linked to a real-world race result, merging entertainment-style gameplay with pari-mutuel betting mechanics.
How the game works
The platform uses a “reveal” format. After funding an account with site credits, players place a wager on a game round tied to a specific race outcome. The result is predetermined by that race and then displayed through a casino-style interface.
Because wagers are pooled, payouts fluctuate depending on how players distribute their bets, rather than being set at fixed odds — similar to traditional horse racing.
GiddyUp has also added a “How it Works” section across its site and app to help guide new users, along with updates aimed at improving navigation speed.
Could GiddyUp come to California?
GiddyUp operates under advance-deposit wagering (ADW) rules, rather than iGaming regulations. That distinction is key because iGaming has not yet been legalized.
California has a strong horse racing industry and existing parimutuel wagering infrastructure. That could make it a potential fit for similar platforms, depending on regulatory approval.
GiddyUp is also live in New York and Florida, and could make its way to other markets, too.
A different kind of player experience
The platform is designed to appeal to more than just traditional horse racing bettors. Its simplified layout removes much of the complexity typically associated with racing wagers, making it more accessible to casual players.
At launch, GiddyUp offers 33 games, with plans to expand to 50 in the coming days. All titles are powered by race outcomes rather than RNG software.
New users can also take advantage of a $5 no-deposit bonus. The platform has expanded its banking options to include credit and debit cards, along with instant withdrawals.
What it could mean for California
GiddyUp’s rollout highlights how operators are finding alternative ways to deliver casino-style experiences in states without legalized iGaming.
For California, where sports betting efforts have stalled and iGaming remain off the table, platforms like GiddyUp could represent a potential path forward — or at least a glimpse at how the industry may evolve under existing regulatory structures.
