Saint Mary's Basketball Odds

Fifty Years Ago, College Basketball Was Different

The Saint Mary’s Gaels men’s basketball team was a perennial loser in the early 2000s but is now considered one of the top mid-majors in the country. Saint Mary’s has appeared in 12 NCAA tournaments—11 since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985.

The Gaels have never gone deeper than the Sweet Sixteen, but they do own four WCC Tournament titles and have been conference regular-season champs seven times. That’s why the Gaels will be a betting favorite once legal online sports betting comes to California.

Saint Mary’s basketball lines explained

When Saint Mary’s met UCONN in a 4/5 matchup in the Second Round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the line at top sports betting sites would have looked something like this:

UConn-145-2.5 (-110)Over 126.5 (-110)
St. Mary's+120+2.5 (-110)Under 126.5 (-110)

The Huskies won in a 70-55 blowout that was not as close as the sportsbooks initially thought. That meant the UConn -145 moneyline would have paid $100 for every $145 bet, and the UCLA -2.5 point spread hit.

There were a total of 125 points scored, which meant the 126.5 line was almost spot on and the under hit, at sportsbook sites like BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings California.

Live betting on Saint Mary’s basketball

Live betting for Saint Mary’s games is available with sportsbook apps in Arizona, Nevada and Oregon. Since live betting uses odds that change with the action on the court and that action changes fast, it won’t come to California until sports betting apps do.

Keep the Arizona, Nevada and Oregon sportsbook apps handy when you watch games in these states, and you can take part in live betting. Just be ready to act quickly.

UCLA was only a slight favorite to begin the game described above. But the live line would have started rising quickly and continued to go up throughout that game until you would be forced to lay a lot of money just to win a little. In blowout wins like this one, betting the live odds as fast as you can offers the best value.
