The NBA restart is just one day away and the most anticipated event is the two Los Angeles teams facing each other in what could be a Western Conference Finals preview. FanDuel Sportsbook is adding to the hype with a special Lakers spread promotion.
For every 2,500 wagers the book receives on the special market, FanDuel will move the line in the Lakers’ favor by a point. That could mean a stellar payout if the Lakers cooperate.
Details on the Lakers spread promotion at FanDuel
From now until the Clippers and Lakers tipoff, scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 30, FanDuel is running the Lakers “Spread the Love” promo for its online sports betting platform.
Last year, it introduced the special in conjunction with its launch in Indiana for an Indianapolis Colts game.
The final spread on that market ended up being +51. Additionally, FanDuel tried out the model in the NBA earlier this season as well. The final spread on a Philadelphia 76ers contest connected to the promo was +59.5.
When the Lakers Spread the Love market opened, the line was -4 with the odds at -110. At 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the line had moved to +3 with 2,437 wagers needed to get to +4.
FanDuel has the Lakers as a -156 favorite to beat the Clippers on TNT. The traditional spread in the game is 3.5 points and the total is 156.5. The odds on both sides of both of those markets are -110.
If the spread keeps going up, it will be hard for FanDuel customers to pass on it. There’s good reason to believe the Lakers will cover on Thursday.
Handicapping the Clippers-Lakers restart game
The Lakers resume their season with a Western Conference-best .778 winning percentage. Only the Milwaukee Bucks approach the restart with a better winning percentage in the entire NBA.
The Clippers have won two out of three regular-season meetings between these two teams so far. The Lakers won the most recent affair, however, on March 8.
Perhaps of greatest importance for the Lakers is that the entire roster they went into the suspension with is now available and healthy. Center Anthony Davis has dealt with injuries often in his career, and him playing at a high level will be crucial for winning this game.
Additionally, the extra rest likely did forward LeBron James a lot of good. While there may be questions about how many minutes players will see as the season plays out, this pair should be on the court a lot Thursday night.
That could mean a solid Lakers win and for FanDuel customers, a nice payout. Just how nice that payout might be is partially in bettors’ hands.
